The World African Diaspora Union (WADU) is especially urging all to focus on ways to support and influence a principled and successful outcome of the African Union African Diaspora Summit on May 25-26, 2012. The African Union Diaspora Summit in South Africa is an unprecedented attempt to fulfill a key goal of the mission of Pan Africanism - to reunify the African Diaspora with Africa.

Numerous leaders from across Africa and the African Diaspora are been invited to attend. Some of the African Diaspora leaders from the northern Diaspora (U.S.A.) who may participate in this Summit are Dr. Julius Garvey (NY), Dr. Leonard Jeffries (NJ), Mel Foote (WDC), Ms. Vanessa Williams (GA), Dr. Georgina Falu (PR) and Omowale Clay (NY).

Due to Africa’s continued vulnerable position, the Europeans have already launched strategic attacks on several African countries, particularly lethal, and destabilizing direct and indirect assaults on Libya, Ivory Coast, Mali, and yes the African Union. Most importantly, the meeting in South Africa comes at a time as Europe crumbles after centuries of feasting on the death and destruction of Africans. Now more ever, Africans in the Diaspora have a great opportunity to finally help in the rebuilding of their Motherland, after centuries of continuous destruction. The time to act is now for “Pan Africanism or Perish”!

In Atlanta, organizations such as the World African Diaspora Union (WADU), the Pan African Orthodox Christian Church (PAOCC), All African Peoples’ Revolutionary Party (AAPRP), the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA)/African Communities League (UNIA/ACL) and other Pan African and Black activist organizations will organize African Liberation Day activities.

To Africans in Georgia, Reverend Dr. Ndugu T’Ofori-Atta played a crucial role, with those like the late Dr. Asa Hilliard, to promote Africa and Pan Africanism across the Black South and the globe.

The tribute is to promote Baba Dudley’s vision and work for a Diaspora union with Africa, as the 6th region of Africa. In April 2007, Baba Dudley Thompson committed to join Elombe Brath, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Nana Farika Birhane and Minister P.D. Menelik Harris to support the building an African Diaspora system “for the empowerment of Black people in the world.” By July 2007, WADU was given birth in Jamaica as a primary Diaspora instrument to work with the AU. WADU and Baba Dudley has been a persistent, principled and a powerful Pan African voice of the African Diaspora to unify with Africa

Since May 25, 1963, Pan Africanists have used this as a pivotal political period to rally Africans across the world to support African liberation struggles against colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism and imperialism. WADU is now promoting Africa Month for the global political, cultural and economic renaissance and union of African people.

On January 20, 2012, His Excellency Dudley Thompson, President of the World African Diaspora Union (WADU) was called to join the ranks of great African Ancestors such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Honorable Marcus Garvey, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Fannie Lou Hamer, Minister Malcolm Omowale Shabazz, Dr. WEB Dubois, Ella Baker, Walter Rodney, Kwame Touré, Sekou Touré, Asa Hilliard-Nana Amankwatia Baffour and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Dudley was in New York City celebrating his 95th birthday and planning for the WADU Annual Executive Council Session in New Jersey when he made his transition. According to Dr. Leonard Jeffries “I was blessed to be with him as he took his last steps in his great and mighty Pan African walk.”

His Excellency Dudley Thompson has been an enduring and relentless servant of African people and humanity. A WWII veteran of the Royal Air Force (RAF), he was a participant of the famous 5th Pan African Congress (PAC) of 1945 in England with leaders such as President Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Dr. WEB Dubois of the USA, Amy Garvey of Jamaica and George Padmore of Trinidad. He was also an attorney for Jomo Kenyatta during the famous Mau Mau revolution and a key supporter of the struggles for African independence.

He also gave initial support to Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who at the time Ambassador Dudley was practicing law in what was then Tanganyika, helped Mwalimu Nyerere in setting up an office and assisted him with the legalize of writing the constitution of what was to be come Tanzania. Born in Panama, he became a Foreign Minister under the Honorable Michael Manley, Prime Minister of Jamaica, ambassador from Jamaica to numerous countries, especially in Africa (Ghana, Namibia, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe) and an advisor to the late President-elect MKO Abiola of Nigeria. Thompson played an effective role in the independence movement of both Belize and Bahamas. He was a Member of both the Senate of Jamaica and the Leader of Government Business in the House and later a Member of the House of Representatives.

In 2007, we elected Dudley Thompson as the first President of WADU. Dr. Dudley Thompson’s work as the President of WADU has been extremely successful beyond expectations as a senior elder. Before his election as President of WADU, the Pan African Movement was in a vulnerable state entering the 21st century due to the death and illnesses of many veteran Pan Africanists. Ever cognizant of this weakness, Baba Dudley decided to work with steel zeal to rebuild the Pan African Movement to play a decisive role in the world, as it did in the 20th century. Almost instantaneously after taking leadership with other great Pan Africanists over WADU, the African world responded positively and with great expectations under the robust and unified leadership of WADU. Thereafter, WADU has attracted other diverse powerful leaders bent on sharing WADU successes and more importantly to support WADU push toward Pan African victory.

From the very beginning, Baba Dudley moved with resolute and unprecedented speed to formally established WADU as a powerful force in the African world. The initial plan crafted by Baba Dudley called for WADU to establish a leadership council with some of the most distinguished, dedicated, and diverse veteran Pan Africanists in the world. Second, with WADU unified Diaspora leadership, Baba Dudley pressed decisively to influence the African Union to hasten the unfulfilled objectives for African Diaspora representation, repatriation, citizenship, and sustainable development. Finally and most importantly, Baba Dudley provided the African Diaspora with a 21st century model for a comprehensive economic, political, and cultural plan for the African Diaspora, to accomplish the Pan African mission, with an integrated Africa.

During his service in WADU, he consistently called for us to “establish a new global order of justice and equality for all and for African empowerment for the accomplishment of the African Renaissance.”In 2011, he stressed “military intervention is not an option…” “Africa’s glorious history and civilizations were disrupted by foreign influence, military interventions and genocidal warfare against the people of Africa.”

In 2010, he announced, “Our work in Ethiopia is to hasten the long struggle and work for the re-integration of African people captured and dispersed from Africa for centuries, to now build new enterprises to restore dignity, pride and power of African people in the world.” Also in 2010, he supported the quest of Senegalese President Abdoulye Wade for Pan African unity and was one of the prominent guests when the Senegalese president unveiled the magnificent Renaissance monument in Dakar, Senegal.

In 2009, Baba stated “My message of thanks to you includes my personal appeal as a veteran Pan Africanist to teach our youth of today their past history of yesterday and their potential of today that their days after tomorrow can be better if they take their responsibility into their own hands and acknowledge their duty to a united Africa, as our real Motherland.”

In 2008, he warned, “The price of Justice is Eternal Vigilance. At a time when we are challenged by so many downturns and difficulties in our daily lives, we have now the clear duty and opportunity to save the next generation. ”In 2007, when the Ambassador took leadership of WADU, he proclaimed to the world “The result of the Summit is historic and a great leap forward for the full integration of the Africans of the Diaspora as a powerful family partner for the rebuilding of our Motherland, Africa.” Finally, on January 20, 2012, minutes before his death, Baba Dudley impressed upon Dr. Leonard Jeffries that “Dr. John Henrik Clarke was right, we must work for Pan Africanism or Perish.”

Indeed, Baba Dudley was preparing to complete his final year as the President of WADU and to be elevated as the venerated WADU Chair of the High Council Elders. The global WADU family with sadness expresses peace with love to the “Living Legend” His Excellency “Burning Spear” Dudley Thompson. We especially send our condolences to Ambassador Dudley’s wife Cecile, his children, grandchildren, great-grand-children and the other members of his family. The official funeral will take place Friday, February 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Jamaica. Ambassador Thompson’s burial will be with full military honors at Up Park Camp Cemetery, immediately after the service.

The WADU leadership is extremely thankful to his eternal contributions and remains steadfast to his vision for a much brighter day for African people in the world. If attending, you can join our new WADU President Dr. Leonard Jeffries in a delegation to the funeral in Jamaica. Also, you can participate in global tributes and in the WADU 5-year campaign on behalf of our beloved leader for the union of African people. Please send all cards and condolences to Afrikan Poetry Theatre, 176-03 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica, N.Y. 11432-5503. We now close with the daily sacred words of Baba Dudley “PEACE AND LOVE.”

He was a historical figure in the politics of Jamaica and in the larger global struggle to unite people of African descent. Hard to miss with his cheerful disposition, intellect and passionate conversations, Ambassador Dudley Thompson drew crowds no matter where he went. A former Jamaican cabinet minister who served as a minister of national security, justice and foreign affairs, Thompson died Friday morning in New York, the day after he turned 95. He was scheduled to celebrate the next week in New Jersey. He lived in Weston.

“We will miss his intellect, his stature,” said Jamaica’s Miami Consul General Sandra A. Grant Griffiths, whose office confirmed the death. “He was all over the place.” Griffiths last saw Thompson in December when he attended a holiday gathering at her residence. There, like elsewhere, he drew crowds to his side as he discussed Jamaica, and Africa, the continent where he served as an envoy in several countries including Nigeria, Namibia and Ghana, and practiced law as a young man. It was while defending the late Jomo Kenyatta during his Mau Mau rebellion trial in Kenya that Thompson became well-known across Africa.

Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller described Thompson as “a man of firm convictions, articulate, sharp on his feet and witty. Dudley Thompson loved his country with a passion and served it with honor and distinction.” Thompson was up with the times. He blogged and had his own website. www.DudleyThompson.4t.com. His dream was to see a united Africa and was president of the World African Diaspora Union.

According to his website, he was born in Panama and raised in Jamaica. He served in Britain’s Royal Air Force during World War II, and he was a Rhodes scholar. In the early 1950s, he practiced law in Tanzania and Kenya, and became involved in the nationalists struggles in both countries. In October, Thompson made history when the African Union made him the first person to become a citizen of the continent and gave him a passport. Dozens of African presidents attended the ceremony, said Djibril Diallo, senior advisor to the executive director of the UNAIDS and advisor to the President of Senegal on Diaspora Affairs.

Diallo said Thompson left him a voice mail on his cell phone just days ago telling him to call because he had some suggestions on their ongoing collaboration to promote Africa. “I was working on getting him an honorary ambassadorship for the entire African continent,” said Diallo, whose relationship with Thompson dates back more than 20 years. “He’s amazing as a Pan-Africanist, and has worked to the last hour just preaching Africa and the diaspora.’’

He was also instructor and member of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellows, a founding member and leader of the Concerned Black Clergy of Atlanta and most importantly a ‘peoples’ pastor’. Over the decades, Dr. Atta worked with major leaders across the African world for the freedom and liberation of African people resulting in the building of major Pan African institutions in Africa and the African Diaspora.

Born on July 11, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Atta is an activist priest who has consistently served African people with the utmost grace, humility, and conviction. His work for Black freedom follows the path of great Pan African priestly leaders such as Rev. Henry H. Garnett, Rev. Dr. Edward Blyden, Rev. Dr. Martin Delaney, M.D., Bishop Henry McNeil Turner, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa. These ministers have transformed the religious, political, and social landscape of history.

As a child, Dr. Atta felt a passion to help overcome the problems of the world. While serving during WW11 as an assistant Chaplain in the Pacific, Dr. Atta made his life commitment to serve Black people, especially those challenges affecting his Homeland, Africa. Upon completion of his military service, he immediately enrolled at Lincoln University and then attended graduate studies at Boston University with other African American leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Atta remembered Boston University as a “hotbed for raising one’s spiritual and political conscience to transform a world dominated by racism, imperialism and colonialism.”

Upon graduation from Boston University in 1951, Dr. Atta taught briefly at Livingstone College in North Carolina and then proceeded with his wife Farrel ‘Nanasewa’ Thomas to work in the Congo. While in the Congo, he taught and promoted African liberation theology. He also participated in activities that led to the forming of the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) in 1961. The AACC is a Pan African faith organization that gave support to the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963. Both the AACC and the OAU committed themselves in principle to support the unification and liberation of African people.

In 1965, Dr, Atta returned to the United States and established the Religious Heritage of the Black World (RHBW) at Livingstone College as an organization to re-educate Africans in the Diaspora on African culture, spirituality and to participate in the African freedom struggles of African people. In 1969, the RHBW moved to the ITC in Atlanta, Georgia and collaborated with Dr. Vincent Harding (former speechwriter for Dr. M.L. King, Jr.) of the Institute of the Black World (IBW) on numerous projects.

In the 1970’s, the RHAW also became the beacon of light for African spiritual reawakening attracting many pastors and community leaders to accept and confirm African traditional worldview as vital to the dignity, humanity and divinity of African people. It officially changed its name from RHBW to RHAW to send a clear and uncompromising message that we are Africans. Dr. Atta also collaborated with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellows Doctoral Project at Colgate University as a faculty leader and member teaching prominent faith leaders on the significance of African religious experiences in South America, the Caribbean and the Atlantic coast of the United States as critical links to African spiritual legacy. Additionally, while at ITC, Baba Atta educated thousands of young ministers to dedicate their work to restore and promote African history, spirituality and African liberation, everywhere.

Dr. Atta also used the RHAW as a catalyst to provide direct support for African liberation struggles in Africa and throughout the Diaspora. The RHAW has especially collaborated with the AACC, the National Council of Churches (NCC,USA), the World Council of Churches (WCC), Congress of National Black Churches (CNBC) on a number of Africa initiatives to promote the decolonization of Africa. Inspired by Dr. Atta, graduates of the MLK Fellows program such as The Reverend Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker and Canon Frederick Williams were able to organize other prominent ministers to serve as vital links to support the liberation and human rights struggles in Africa.

By the 1980’s, the RHAW initiated the Pan African Christian Church Conference (PACCC) to organize African faith leaders across the Diaspora to partner with the AACC to support the full liberation and reconstruction of Africa. With PACCC, the RHAW became the first successful effort in Black history to hold a major Pan African meeting of faith leaders representing African people from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe. The work of PACCC inspired the founding the Religious Action Network (RAN) by Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, former Chief of Staff to Dr. King and former Chair of the National Action Network (NAN) under Rev. Al Sharpton. RAN became a powerful punch to American Committee on Africa, now Africa Action. Through RAN, Dr. Walker recruited former students of Dr. Atta such as Rev. Phyllis Byrd and Minister P.D. Menelik Harris into his leadership to galvanize religious organizations and leaders for African liberation, sustainable development, and human rights issues in Africa.

The RHAW opened the 21st century by launching the RHAW Pan African Movement (PAM) initiative to unify the African Diaspora with Africa. The RHAWPAM initiative was inspired by the work of Bishop Henry McNeil Turner, a key convener and supporter of the 1900 First Pan African Congress (PAC) with WEB Dubois other leaders of Africa and the Diaspora in England calling for unified action to end colonialism and imperialism in Africa. The RHAWPAM initiative was also a response from the continuous call from the OAU, now African Union and the AACC for Africans in the Diaspora to become partners for the rebuilding of our Homeland, Africa.

Since 2004, the RHAW was able to rally wide support from major organizations and leaders across the African Diaspora to rebuild the Pan African Movement for the 21st century and by 2007 established the World Afrikan Diaspora Union (WADU) as that instrument. WADU is now the central Pan African organization of the Diaspora unifying the African Diaspora with Africa. WADU leadership is now across the African Diaspora including Europe, the USA, the Caribbean and in South America. Dr. Atta initially served as its Chief Secretariat and then the Chair of WADU. WADU has been able to attract other exemplary Diaspora leaders such as His Excellency Baba Dr. Dudley Thompson, President; Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Vice President; Nana Dr. Niara Sudarkasa, Chief Elder; Nana Sybil Clarke (wife of Dr. John H. Clarke), Queen Mother; and Dr. Julius Garvey, Executive Support.

As part of enduring work, the students and faculty of ITC (premier Black seminary) have pushed for a Sankofa curriculum as a model to promote African sacred heritage and history in the world. Indeed, Dr. Ndugu T’Ofori-Atta has passed on a great legacy to his immediate and extended family members across the world. Our beloved Baba Ndugu T’Ofori-Atta’s spirit is now watching over us as we mourn, celebrate and continue his sacred and ’saintly’ legacy. The funeral rite of passage ceremony into the Ancestral world will be on January 22, 2012.
Atlanta, Ga. – During the World African Diaspora Union (WADU) 5th Pan African Congress (PAC) anniversary conference in the Netherlands this October 28-29, 2011, African Diaspora leaders called for the re-Africanization of the African mind to successfully achieve the mission for a united states of Africa. Under the theme “The New African World Order”, Africans descended on Amsterdam from different parts of Africa, Europe, South America, North America, and the Caribbean to support a systematic Pan African agenda pushed by WADU for the scattered family members of Africa to organize as an economic, political and cultural power block in the world.

According to Dr. Leonard Jeffries, the keynote speaker of the WADU Europe event, “this successful and historic meeting in Europe was convened with the full support of WADU President His Excellency Dudley Thompson and in the spirit of our Ancestors such as those like Dr. John Henrik Clarke to promote Pan Africanism or perish.” During his address on the history, vision and foundation of Pan Africanism, Dr Jeffries impressed upon and charged the new WADU leaders of Europe to “agitate, educate and organize” in the spirit of Kwame Ture for the cultural, political and economic reintegration of African people as one powerful family.

The October meeting in the Netherlands came at a critical time in the 111th anniversary year of the formal launching of the Pan African Movement when former colonial states of Europe have escalated their agenda to re-colonize and enslave Africa under the guise of United Nations humanitarian assistance to Africa. Orchestrated from European capitols, European leaders have destroyed Libya, supported the genocidal attack on Black Libyans in northern Africa, reinforced U.S. militarization of Africa with Africom and have expanded NATO operations across Africa. The vicious attacks on Africa also came almost immediately after the United Nations declared 2011 as the year for the people of African descent.
