STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH

OUR PEOPLE IN HAITI

The World African Diaspora Union (WADU) sends its everlasting love and prayers to our people of Haiti during this period of great tragedy that has visited our people. WADU also supports the call from the African Union for all member nations of the world community, especially member states of Africa to provide generously to the people of Haiti to alleviate their suffering. WADU also salutes the United Nations efforts to mobilize international support for Haiti.

Additionally, WADU is encouraged by the President of the United States for providing resources to the Haitian people during this critical and extremely vulnerable period. Indeed, we must be cognizant that Haiti is not just as a neighbor in need but a people who have sacrificed for the liberation of the United States and the Americas from the clutches of imperialism, colonialism and slavery. WADU salutes the quick responses of those nations such as Cuba, Venezuela and Brazil and other nations of the Caribbean Community, Latin America, Asia, the European Union and Russia for their decisive humanitarian response to save the lives of our people.

WADU now calls upon Pan Africanists, Africa related organizations and people of good-will to continue working relentlessly to coordinate an effective response to assist with the relief. Consequently, WADU is urging its leaders and supporters from across the African Diaspora to prioritize working and donating to the Haitian Caribbean communities and major African Diaspora organizations such as the Haiti support project of IBW21st (www.ibw21.org) and Yele for Haiti Foundation (www.yele.org/).

Most of all, WADU is in consultation with African leaders across the world, and is urging those who are of service to African people to further commit and unify our agenda in the planning and implementing of long term sustainable efforts for the stability and advancement of Haiti and African people. Finally, WADU is clear that the solution to African problems lies within us, in the control of our abundant resources and the visionary work for immediate union of African people with Africa. Let us remain vigilant in Haiti of ‘Capitalists bearing gifts,’ Pan Africanism or perish!
